Board of Directors

Laurie Harvey, Executive Director of Center for Work Education and Employment (CWEE), serves as Chair. She joined the Board in 2004. Laurie was a Board Member during 2003 as the representative from Colorado Nonprofit Association. After her term on that Board expired, she agreed to continue on the Nonprofit Resources’ Board. Her experience in the nonprofit sector as well as her experience on the Colorado Nonprofit Association Board provides a unique and valuable perspective.

Gerry Rising, President, Human Resource Benefit Administrators, serves as Secretary. He joined the Board in January, 2006. His firm administers health insurance programs for self-funded employers and Multiple Employer Welfare Associations (MEWA). Gerry has been an active member of the community, currently serving on the Insurance Commissioner’s Producer Advisory Committee. He also previously served on the Board for Nonprofit Resources from 1994 to 2000. He was recruited for another term in 2006. Gerry’s background in health insurance and community involvement present a well-rounded benefit to the Board.

Richard Johnson, President, Benefits & Incentives Group (BIG) currently serves as Treasurer. He joined the Board in January, 2006. Rich began his career with Northwestern National Life in the group department. A few years later, he joined one of the large benefits brokers in Denver and became a Senior Vice President before leaving to start his own firm. During the past twelve years, BIG has become recognized as a leader in the benefits consulting field. Rich worked with the founder of CANPO to develop benefit insurance programs for members. Those programs were the foundation for building Nonprofit Resources. We welcome Rich’s experience in the industry and his long-standing knowledge of Colorado Nonprofit Association.

Janet Byrne, CPA, Financial Management, Pinnacol Assurance, joined the Board in 2005. Janet has a strong financial analysis, accounting and regulatory compliance background. Previously, she served at the Deputy Commissioner of Finance and Administration at the Colorado Division of Insurance. Janet has been very helpful with setting financial goals and benchmarks for the Agency. She understands the balance between for-profit and nonprofit issues for our type of insurance agency.
