Dental insurance is an important benefit to employees. If untreated, oral health problems (tooth loss, infection, damage to the bone or nerve) can create problems for other parts of the body. Prevention is the best way to maintain good oral health. Providing dental insurance will motivate your employees to seek regular check-ups and correct dental problems before they become serious health issues.

Most dental plans have three categories of coverage:

  • Diagnostic and Preventative Services

    a. Routine exams
    b. X-rays
    c. Cleaning
    d. Fluoride and Sealants

  • Basic Services

    a. Fillings
    b. Oral surgery
    c. Periodontics
    d. Endodontics

  • Major Services

    a. Gold fillings
    b. Crowns
    c. Prosthodontics – bridges and dentures
    d. Dental implant coverage (not available on most dental plans)

Orthodontic Services may be added to some policies. A lifetime limit is usually included.

At Nonprofit Resources, we offer a wide selection of dental plans and are happy to help you select the best one for your organization. Above are the three types of plans we offer.

A fee-for-service or “traditional” type of dental plan covers each employee or family, and affords selection of the dentist of their choice. Depending on the size of your organization, there are certain enrollment requirements that must be met.

A Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plan requires employees to select a dentist from a network or directory. If a plan allows the employee to use a dentist outside of the network, the cost per procedure will be increased.

A Dental Health Maintenance Organization (DHMO) allows employees to enroll on a voluntary basis; i.e., no employer contribution is required and there are no minimum participation requirements. The employee selects a dentist from the list. Each procedure has an established co-pay that must be paid by the employee. This is typically the lowest cost plan and the most restrictive to use.
