General Liability/Auto Liability

This policy provides protection against claims or lawsuits alleging bodily or personal injuries or property damage caused by the operations or actions of your organization. These injuries might include a child who is injured while playing at school, a senior citizen who becomes ill from eating food at a senior meal site, or a program participant who slips on a wet floor and breaks a bone. The policy excludes such things as lawsuits brought against board members for bad management decision, lawsuits alleging unfair employment practices or actions of an unprofessional nature.

An insurance policy is a legally binding contract. Once you accept the contract and pay the premium, the insurance contract becomes a binding agreement, which obligates the insurance company to provide protection as outlined in the contract. However, it also is important that you read the exclusions, which tell you when the coverage does not apply.

Hired and non-owned auto liability covers automobiles that an organization uses but does not own. Hired coverage applies to an automobile on a short-term lease. It does not cover vehicles leased on a long-term basis. Non-owned coverage applies to automobiles used without charge to the organization, such as those owned by volunteers and employees but used on organization business.

Commercial Property

This policy protects your organization against direct physical loss of, or damage to, covered property from insured causes of loss. Generally, you would include buildings you own or contract to insure and business personal property.

The most common cause of loss form is special form (all-risk). It covers all causes of loss not specifically excluded. If you have the replacement cost option, the damaged property must be repaired or replaced and the actual cost to do so is your settlement (subject to the policy limits). If you have the actual cash value option, you receive the replacement cost less an allowance for physical depreciation.
